Cookies & Kindness

You know, this may sound a bit bonkers, but never underestimate the power of a cookie. About 15 years ago I started having a bit of trouble swallowing and I went to see a throat doctor a few times, bringing a bag of my homemade cookies each time for the whole staff. It got to the point where the nurses would come sit with me in the waiting room if I had to wait to see the doctor. I was the cookie guy, after all.

But imagine my surprise when, after my doc operated to remove the glob in my throat, the bill didn’t include any charge from him. When I went in for my followup and asked him about it, he just smiled.

Small kindnesses…a cookie….listening deeply….taking time….encouraging a young person… are powerful gifts, and oftentimes we will never know how important those gifts are to others.

Our Kindness Walk is an invitation to practice those gifts. We are just two old retired teachers with young hearts feeling a need in do something, anything, to say what we care about, and if any of this sounds good to you, please join us for however many steps makes sense to you.
