One

An ocean in one drop of water
An eon in one second
A universe in one grain of sand
A glacier in one ice cube
A blizzard in one snowflake
A hurricane in one soft whisper
All of humanity in one baby’s hand
An entire forest in one emerging seedling
A symphony in one vibration
An entire religion in one act of faith
Eternity in one simple pause
All works of art in one brush stroke
All philosophies in one thought
All of human history in one choice

All light emanating from one candle
All darkness being dispelled by the same candle
It only takes one.

As Jim and I walk, I carry this poem with me as a reminder that each and every one of us are always one choice away from lighting a candle to brighten the world around us one person at a time.
