Walk the Talk
Yo…
Walking the talk
Means don’t you balk
At speaking your mind
About being kind
Knowing we all could
Engage in the good
To bring about hope
So if together we stepped
We’d all accept
That in this fractured land
Walking hand in hand
Makes a lot more sense
Thank building a fence
Or making inferences
About our differences
While so many suffer
Without a buffer
From the hatred and cold
Trying hard to be bold
So we need to look forward
As we march on toward
A time of healing
And the joy of feeling
At reaching that mountain top
Where we all can stop
Take a look around
And hear that sound
Of diversity singing
And peace bells ringing…
What a lovely vision
But here’s the collision
Between hope and fear
As many will jeer
At our dreams of peace
With hate on the increase
With humankind’s history
Of wars and mis’ry…
But that’s why it’s time
In this little rhyme
To flip the script
And know we’re equipped
To feed one another
Our sister and brother
And it doesn’t take much
To reach out and touch
A person in need
With a smile and seed
And watch them grow
From the soil of sorrow
Into a brighter tomorrow.
That’s why we’re walking
That’s why we’re talking
That at the end of the day
Our hearts can say
We did the best that we could
To be kind and do good!
