Be Kind Do Good Reflection

Ever walked into a poem?
That’s what I’m gonna do
It’s living poetry to be kind, to do good
To reach out a giving hand
Not just with cookies and t-shirts
But with an open heart
An open hand
An open smile radiating out of open eyes

This poem I’m starting with my friend
Will be like so many of my poems
I begin with an idea
That’s like an itch to be scratched
A lump of clay to be shaped
In this case…
A journey to unfold…
Each person
Each community
Each interaction
Will lend themselves to the meter of the verse
That will come to light
With every step we take

To walk into this 9 day poem
I prepare in the only way I can:
With a fervent and centering prayer
That I’m an open book
To people we meet along the way
That they don’t have to read between the lines to know that
The joy Jim and I have in sharing our love
Is real and genuine
That this world does have more light in it
Than darkness to be endured

After all…
Isn’t that one way of describing a poem:
“An act of faith that the impressions, feelings and images
we encounter and form into words, will inspire and light a fire in others to enter into their own poems.”
It’s time to walk the talk.

See you all soon.
Bob
