3 Weeks to Go!
Even though we have had gray (okay, perhaps more white) hair for many years, Bob and I are still young at heart even if we might sometimes wish for our younger bodies (photo above).
With only 3 weeks to go before we head out on the Kindness Walk, both of us have been putting in the miles. Bob is a lifelong runner and is in tip top shape already, but this is the first time I’ve tried walking more than 2-3 miles regularly. The last few weeks I’ve been trying to walk different routes every other day, increasing mileage each time I go out. A few days ago I did almost 12 miles but yesterday I chose to only go 7 miles since it was 89º.
I’m paying special attention to my feet and I think I finally have the right combination of socks (a thin silk inner liner and a lightweight merino wool outer sock), as well as how tight to lace my shoes. I haven’t had a hint of hot spots or blisters, thank goodness.
Three of the days on the Walk are about 12 miles. I know I can do them, but I’m going to have one or two Tylenol tablets in my pocket. And of course, plenty of water, electrolytes, a sun hat and protein bars. Perhaps the most important thing I’m bringing along is my best friend, along with all of you who choose to join us!
