Happy Places
I imagine that many of us have happy places we like to spend time in. I like to build stuff, so my little woodworking shop (shown above in a shocking and inexcusable attempt to make you think it is usually this clean) is a sweet place to hang out, especially in the winter.
And it’s not just a shop. The ladder leads to a trap door that opens up to a loft space (photo below) where I have a day bed, desk area and shelves for favorite books, along with some of my favorite photos and paintings on the walls. Another happy place.
There’s something about creating a nest for yourself that transcends place or location. You get to be held in a way that allows you to come home to yourself. To be creative, curious or quiet. To recharge.
Okay, that’s enough about a couple of my happy places. As important as they are to me, I find myself thinking about the experience of helping others find their happy places, about encouraging them to share their stories and acknowledge their gifts. About allowing them to be who they truly are. About walking alongside them as they find their way, and appreciating the company.
