Day Six!

After a sendoff blessing from pastor Bianca at Urban Grace Church in downtown Tacoma, Bob, Lance and I started out on our 11-mile route to Lakewood.

When we meet up with people walking towards us on the sidewalk we almost always greet them with “We’ve got homemade cookies, would you like one?” Almost everyone takes one or two! These two women were delighted to take not only cookies but t-shirts as well. That made our morning!

Bob has been such a helpful advisor when my legs have felt twingy or sore. He encouraged me to use compression sleeves on my 73-year old calves, which have worked really well, and he also tells me to stop and stretch whenever I’m feeling too tight.

At our lunch stop (red curry and jasmine rice) we met an adorable 4-month old and his parents, who were happy to have cookies and t-shirts!

And just as the hot afternoon sun was starting to take the wind out of our sails, Dale (from Christ Lutheran) came driving by to cheer us on!

He was just the first of a whole batch of beautiful souls who met us outside the church (with music) and ushered Bob and me to a foot-washing station. Oh. My. Gosh. Thank you!

After that we had the best meal of our trip so far, followed by a chance to gather in the sanctuary where Kristin had prepared copies of the Prayer of St. Francis for us to read together. Bob also shared the blessing we had received from Rabbi Jesse on day 2 at Temple Beth Am.

An amazing day…
